Hewitt close to glory
July 19, 2011, Posted by Pokerfarm
What a night for John Hewitt and The Pokerfarm. The tension was palpable at the Rio all night as the remaining 57 players sat down to take their shot at main event glory and 9 million bucks. Big names Eric Lindgren and David 'Doc' Sands fell by the wayside. Sadly the prospect of a couple making the final table of the main event won't be happening, as Sands' lovely girlfriend Erika was elminated one place next to him in 29th spot.
John had a shaky start to the day, being knocked right back down to 1 million after running JJ into AA. Many thought that the writing was on the wall for John but he regrouped, rebuilt, and went back to work. Over the next few hours he chipped up on a tough table, knocking out David Bach with an AK v QQ coinflip (AKK flop was handy) and then winning a massive pot after being check raised on the river with a set of sixes on a QJ46A board. John made the call and played considered aggressive poker to end the day on 13 million chips, good for 7th spot out of only 22 remaining.
Tomorrow John has a tricky table draw, with some big stacks and big names still left in the field. Ben Lamb is still a huge threat and made it through the day with 14,690,000. What's more he has direct position on John tomorrow. Irishman Eogean O'Dea is a serious threat with a massive 19,050,000 stack and Bryan Devonshire is another well known face with a sharp game. His table looks like this:
Martin Staszko 6,380,000
John Hewitt 13,265,000
Ben Lamb 14,690,000
Ryan Lenaghan 10,415,000
Andrey Pateychuk 16,245,000
Eoghan O'Dea 19,050,000
Bryan Devonshire 6,190,000
It's been an amazing series for The Pokerfarm, and John looks like he could eclipse everything with an incredible performance in the main event. We'll be sweating him tomorrow when he returns to try and capture a place on the elusive November Nine. Good luck John and very best of luck to you from all of us here at The Pokerfarm.
