- A former train engineer and snooker player, James rose through the poker ranks as a founding member of The Hit Squad. In 2008, James narrowly missed out on a WSOP bracelelt, coming second in the $1500 NLH event for over $500,000.
- 2009 Was even better. Akenhead became the first UK player to make the famed November Nine, finishing in 9th at the WSOP main event for over a million. James also made the final table of the WSOP Europe main event and took the prestigious Poker Million title live on television in London.
