Today's news update comes at you with details of a brand new concept in TV poker, gossip regarding the latest poker pro to tie the knot and another weekly rant from Daniel Negreanu.
TV Poker Goes Interactive
A revolutionary new poker programme is set to hit our TV screens next month when iSeriesLIVE sits some of the best players in the world around a table.
The concept show will, “allows consumers to watch top poker players - live with hole cards exposed - and bet on the action as it happens.”
The ability to wager money as the action unfolds is something not seen in the poker industry before and should make for exciting viewing.
Already scheduled for the ten-player, €10,000 tournament is: Dave “Devilfish” Ulliot, Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth and Carlos Mortenson.
Commenting on his forthcoming appearance in the show, Phil Hellmuth said: “for poker to continue to grow, the game needs to become more immediate to our fans.”
The action kicks off on April 5th in Dublin and will be streamed via the iSeriesLIVE website.
Vicky Coren’s Feeling Flushed
The worlds of comedy and poker might not by diametrically opposed, but neither would you expect them to meet in a joining of matrimony.
That’s all about to change though, as poker pro Vicky Coren and comedian David Mitchell have announced they are engaged.
Both Coren and Mitchell thanked their fans via Twitter, with the latter tweeting: “Having received so many lovely messages today, I'm finally coming round to the internet. Thank you all. I'm incredibly happy.”
For many in the poker industry the pair’s relationship was well known, but Mitchell always did his best to evade the glare of the cameras at various poker events.
It remains to be seen whether Mitchell and Coren will become poker’s newest power couple, but if David’s 3-bet bluff is as sharp as his witty sarcasm then “Isildur1” may be in trouble.
Negreanu Rant Goes Awry
He’s back but this time things haven’t gone quite to plan. Daniel Negreanu’s weekly vlogs have become compulsive viewing for the poker community, but this week’s entry has landed him in hot water with the 2+2 mods.
After posting a link and mentioning his forthcoming appearance in the iSeriesLIVE, Daniel received a ban from the moderators. A Twitter war with poker super-tweeter, “Kevmath”, followed, with neither agreeing on the other’s opinion.
All virtual politics aside, is certainly a lighter effort than last week. Indeed, viewers are even treated to Daniel’s world famous Scotty Nguyen impression.
Side Action
With the iSeriesLIVE tournament set to bring together some of the world’s top players, you may be wondering why The Devilfish has been added to the mix. While Dave still knows his way around the felt, he’s far from the top of the modern game.
One thing The Devilfish hasn’t lost though is his ability to banter. With the tournament set to be a rollercoaster of action, it makes sense to include someone with a bit of charisma; something Dave has in abundance.
